Good free antivirus? AVG any good? any other suggestions?

AVG was recommended by one of the instructors at my school and for awhile i heard nothing but good things from AVG, but when i actually researched it a bit i saw plenty of complaints. Where is AVG's weakness? %26 any other free antivirus you know of?

AVG is the most common free anti virus nowadays. I suggest AVG also but i'm using Avast(but not free)..^^
