AVG Antivirus free - problem with false positives?

AVG has been driving me crazy recently with a constant rash of new false positives ~ programs that I know aren't virus laden are labelled as visuses and disabled GRRR!. I have read elsewhere that this is called by heuristic scanning and it was recommended that this be switched off.

I would like to know how to switch heuristic scanning off?

AVG doesn't seem to have any means of getting feedback from their users either which is a bit of a problem. Is there a better free antivirus product out there?

A very high percentage of computers scrapped each year is because of virus, spyware and malware. I hope you don't think that AVG is protecting you from anything but viruses, and not that well at that. Buy a decent antivirus, or suite for that matter, that will give you full protection. Go to CNET for reviews. Take a look at Norton 360.
